"live in hotel" 直译“住酒店”是典型的中式英语误区，在老外听来会产生完全不同的语义，理解错很容易在日常交流里闹出尴尬。

英语里的live核心语义是“长期定居、把某地当作长期的固定住所”，所以"live in hotel"的真实意思是长期住在酒店里、把酒店当成自己的常住家，而不是中文里临时出差、旅游短时间入住酒店的含义。

为什么不能直接翻译成“住酒店”

• check into a hotel：侧重“办理入住酒店”这个动作，是出行场景里的高频地道表达。

• 当你想表达“长期以酒店为家”时，可以用"live in a hotel"，比如He is so busy on business that he basically lives in a hotel.意思是他出差忙到几乎长期住在酒店里。

• 日常旅游、出差的临时入住场景，绝对不能用live in hotel，必须用stay at a hotel，避免产生不必要的语义误会。

这个误区本质上是没有区分开live和stay的核心语义差异，类似的还有“住朋友家”，临时做客暂住也不能说live in my friend's home，正确表达是stay at my friend's place，否则会让对方误以为你打算长期在朋友家常住。
